Flood Bangkok 16.11.2011

The situation continues to improve in and around with more waters receding. In recognition of this, the British Embassy has downgraded their travel advisory, and is no longer advising against non-essential travel to affected areas. We hope that other embassies will soon do the same.

However, there are still some remaining flooded areas on the outskirts of Bangkok, and we are suspending some of our services until the situation improves further.

Asia World sightseeing tours to and Uthai Thani are still suspended until further notice. The recovery process is going well in both cities, but we have decided to wait until everything is completely back to normal before resuming our tours to these destinations. All other Asia World overland tours are operating as normal.

Bangkok’s smaller domestic airport, Don Muang, is still flooded and closed until further notice. All flights scheduled to leave or arrive at Don Muang will use Bangkok’s main airport, Suvarnabhumi, instead.

Bangkok’s main international airport, Suvarnabhumi, is not flooded and is operating as normal. At this stage, it is very unlikely that the airport will be affected by the floods.

All of Bangkok’s main tourist attractions, shopping malls and tourist hotels are open and operating as normal.

All stations of Bangkok’s skytrain (BTS) and subway (MRT) are open as normal.

As a precaution, a few of our sightseeing tours are suspended, as follows:

  • Ayutthaya Day Tour
  • Ayutthaya Cruise
  • Koh Kred Cycling Tour
  • Rose Garden
  • Klong (Canal) Tour

Train services are improving, with more trains being added to the northern and southern routes, but services are still disrupted and delays are common. Trains to the north-east of are operating as normal. Apart from the north-east routes, Asia World still advises against travelling by train until the situation improves further. The Eastern and Oriental Express train service from Bangkok is now running from Surat Thani in southern instead.

Elsewhere in Thailand, including the north and the southern islands and beaches such as and Koh Samui, there are no floods and everything is 100% safe and normal
