Tourist Now Free to Go to Mount Bromo
- After being closed to the public for five months due to intense volcanic activity, the tourism area atop Mount Bromo in East Java has reopened to the public since 30 March 2011. However,
1. The crater itself is sometimes still buzzing which causes a low intensity tremor. This makes the hotel doors and windows at Cemora Lawang side (not Bromo Tosari) to become trembling. The restricted zone is still 2 kms from the crater, which means that the temple area and former jeep stop are still totally closed for any visit.
2. As the crater is still continuously spewing thick fumes with soft particles of volcanic dust, we will provide the mask for our clients in order to protect the nose and mouth.
3. Clients who stay at Bromo Cottages are still able to do sunrise-excursions by visiting the Mount Penanjakan only, while those staying at Cemara Lawang side such as Lava View Hotel, Cafe Lava Lodge and Java Banana Hotel are unable to do any excursions. It is because the road to Penanjakan is closed but we can arrange an alternative trip to a lower viewing platform at Mount Penanjakan II view point, then further down to the sea of sand only.
4. Mount Penanjakan I (the view point for sunrise accessible from Bromo Cottage Hotel only) is still open as it is situated beyond the restricted area and relatively higher but from that side jeep is still not allowed to go down to the caldera.
